🔥 Wildfire 'Bug-Out' Checklist
I saw this list on Facebook and thought it was important enough to share. With all of the wildfires consuming our forests and public lands it’s always a good idea to prepare…
💥 Do not delay leaving to complete this list. If the fire or smoke is close, get out immediately.
**Take First**
1. Everyone in the household.
2. Pets—carriers, leashes and pet medication.
3. Important documents and identification.
4. Prescription medication, glasses and medical equipment.
5. Phones, chargers and battery banks.
6. Wallets, keys, cash and payment cards.
7. Go-bags, water, food and essential clothing.
8. Computers or hard drives containing irreplaceable information, only if immediately accessible.
**Before Leaving the House Only if Time Permits**
1. Close all windows.
2. Switch off the air conditioning and central HVAC at the thermostat.
3. Turn off bathroom fans, kitchen exhaust fans and portable fans.
4. Close all interior doors. Do not lock them.
5. Close the fireplace damper.
6. Close exterior doors. Under wildfire evacuation guidance, leave them unlocked for firefighters.
7. Close the garage door.
8. Leave interior and exterior lights on so firefighters can see the house through smoke.
9. Move patio cushions, doormats and other small combustible items inside, but only if this takes a minute or two.
10. Shut off propane tanks or the gas supply only if you already know how, can reach them safely and authorities recommend it. Do not waste time figuring it out during evacuation.
**Vehicle Check**
1. Load people, pets and essential bags.
2. Make sure every person and animal is accounted for.
3. Use the safest open evacuation route—not necessarily the normal route.
4. Keep windows closed, headlights on and ventilation set to recirculate.
5. Tell the out-of-area contact: who is leaving, where you are going and which route you are using.
6. Leave early. Do not wait to see flames.
**Do Not**
* Climb onto the roof.
* Leave sprinklers running.
* Stop to photograph the fire.
* Spend time packing ordinary possessions.
* Return after leaving.
* Wait for every task to be completed before evacuating.
