Professor Arnold Ehret (1866–1922) the Poopy Expert
A Fat and Sick Person is in Fact a Living Cesspool
Arnold Ehret (1866–1922) was a German naturopath, health educator, and author best known for developing the Mucusless Diet Healing System. Born in St. Georgen, Black Forest, Germany, Ehret initially trained as a professor of drawing and taught for 15 years before health issues, including kidney disease and a consumptive tendency, led him to explore naturopathy. His work focused on diet, fasting, detoxification, and vitalism, emphasizing a plant-based, mucus-free diet to promote health. He authored several books, including Mucusless Diet Healing System and Rational Fasting, and ran sanitariums in Switzerland and the U.S. Ehret died in 1922 after a fall that caused a fatal head injury.
The reason I looked into this fine chap is because of this meme I saw on social media recently (ewwww) 👇 I thought somebody was making up fake info for clicks and giggles…
Was Ehret a Colon Expert?
Turns out Ehret was not a formally recognized medical expert in colon health by modern standards, but he placed significant emphasis on the colon in his teachings. He believed that all diseases stemmed from "constipation" or a "mucus-clogged system," particularly in the colon, which he described as a "human cesspool" accumulating waste from improper diets. His Mucusless Diet Healing System, consisting of raw and cooked fruits and starchless vegetables combined with intermittent fasting, was designed to cleanse the colon and body of mucus and toxins. Ehret argued that mucus-forming foods (like dairy, eggs, starches, and meat) caused blockages in the digestive tract, leading to illness, and that a clean colon was essential for health. He also advocated for practices like enemas to support colon cleansing.
However, Ehret’s claims lack scientific validation. Modern medical science contradicts his views, such as his assertion that white blood cells are waste products caused by mucus-forming foods or that diseases like colds are due to mucus buildup rather than viruses. Critics, including medical experts and historians, have labeled his ideas as unscientific and dangerous, noting that his theories oversimplify disease causation and ignore established physiology. His work has been criticized as quackery, though it retains a following among some alternative health enthusiasts.
While Ehret was influential in early naturopathy and promoted colon health as central to his healing system, he was not a recognized colon expert in the medical or scientific community. His focus on colon cleansing through diet and fasting was a core part of his philosophy, but his methods and theories are not supported by contemporary medical evidence. His legacy persists in niche health circles, with figures like Professor Spira and Dr. Sebi drawing inspiration from his work. ~Grok
Perhaps Ehret’s claims do have something to teach us about health and diet but I ain’t giving up meat, dairy and eggs…..NOPE. Coffee enema? Also NOPE. Intermittent fasting? Big YES.

I have gut issues. IBS-C for one. If I don't take herbs every day I just flat DON'T go! 🥴 We have our own eggs and after just a couple I always feel a little more stopped up than normal. Free range guinea eggs are AMAZING! Yolks are creamy and SO flavorful like duck eggs. Ducks are nasty though and a pain to keep! However, I also take enzymes to break down protein because I can't break down/digest it well. My homeopathic MD says NO ONE should be eating dairy. (Store bought.) I make my own plant based butter because I LOVE salted sweet cream butter and it tastes so good! I use only coconut milk. I don't like almond milk and it breaks my face out!!! NO THANKS! Meat we've always known a piece the size of a deck of cards is all anyone needs per serving. I'd bet it's more what store bought meat is fed/filled with! I bet this guy is SPOT on too! Ever heard of the dumping disease? I don't know technical name. There are people that are obese, but poop after everything they eat! You'd think the opposite would be true and they'd be thin.
